Kelly Clarkson is the the first-ever real American Idol victor. Here career took a peak when her second album Breakaway has gone platinum six times and spawned several monster singles including “Since U Been Gone,” “Behind These Hazel Eyes” and the title track of the album. But don’t forget she had a public feud with label boss Clive Davis in 2007, followed by the cancellation of an arena tour and a cooler reception for third LP My December which has since gone platinum. Currently, she is up for Best Country Collaboration Grammy for duet with Reba McEntire and touring with her band.
Justin Guarini is the American Idol season one’s Sideshow Bob-maned second-place finisher. His debut album on RCA was released around the same time as the campy film From Justin to Kelly. Justin Guarini got dropped from RCA shortly after release of debut album and campy film From Justin to Kelly. Latest news on his official Web site was updated in April 2007, but last year Guarini provided Idol expertise for TV Guide and was continuing to work on his jazz-inspired music
Ruben Studdard is considered the Velvet Teddybear. He is the American Idol season two’s larger-than-life winner. His career took a peak in 2003 with his album Soulful, the only of Studdard’s three albums to go platinum, earned him a Grammy nomination. He got dropped from J Records in December 2007 after sluggish sales. He is currently in a holding pattern, promoting his 2006 album The Return.
Clay Aiken is the season-two second-place finisher. His number One debut album Measure of a Man cam out 2003, which was followed by his New York Times best-selling book Learning to Sing: Finding the Music In Your Life. Though he has consistently denied rumors that he’s gay, Aiken has become a gossip punching bag thanks to incidents like the March 2006 publication of suggestive webcam photos he allegedly sent to a male suitor. He is currently starring on Broadway in Monty Python’s Spamalot.
