Houston’s Yao Ming will miss the rest of the NBA season because of a stress fracture in his left foot, an injury that jeopardizes the Rockets’ playoff chances and his Beijing Olympic hopes. The Beijing Olympics start Aug. 8.
The 7-foot-6 Yao, who was averaging a team-leading 22 points and 10.8 rebounds a game, will be sidelined for about four months before beginning a rehabilitation program.
Rockets team doctor Thomas Clanton has said the cause of the injury could not be traced to a single event and has recommended Yao have surgery to insert screws into his foot. But the Chinese superstar will seek second opinions, as it is possible to treat the injury without an operation.
